NEW PALTZ, N.Y. (AP) — Officials say a high school sophomore has collapsed at track practice and died after suffering back-to-back heart attacks.
The Times Herald-Record of Middletown reports (http://bit.ly/1bdgcYz) that 16-year-old Kyle Brewer suffered the first heart attack Friday afternoon during practice at New Paltz High School. Teammates and coaches used a defibrillator on Kyle and did CPR while others called 911.
Officials say he suffered another heart attack Sunday at a hospital and was declared dead late Sunday.
Students at the high school were told about his death during an assembly Monday morning.
Principal Barbara Clinton called Brewer "an impressive young man" who was well-liked and had a great sense of humor.
