Muslim Women Speak Out Against Ayaan Hirsi Ali's 'Racist' Stance On Islam

Activist Ayaan Hirsi Ali has quite a few critics who disagree with her stance on Islam -- namely, Muslim women themselves.

Ali, who left the religion herself and now identifies as an atheist, has been extremely vocal about her critique of Islam. In her book, Heretic: Why Islam Needs a Reformation Now, she details her issues with its teachings and even declares "Islam is not a religion of peace."

A panel of Muslim women spoke out against Hirsi Ali's "racist" and "problematic" stance in a HuffPost Live conversation on Monday.

"You can regurgitate Fox News as much as you want to get some book sales, but that's not doing anything to contribute to the progression of Muslim women's rights or our place in society or anything like that," said MuslimGirl.net editor-in-chief Amani Al-Khatahtbeh.

Al-Khatahtbeh added Hirsi Ali's quest to reform Islam is self-serving at most:

The stereotypes and the discrimination that Muslim women have to face is often exploited by people that try to use that narrative in order to gain some type of name for themselves. ... They just ride off of very stereotypical, westernized narratives of what it means to be a Muslim for their own benefit, and in doing so they completely marginalize the voices of a large spectrum of Muslim women's lived experiences themselves.
