Man Survives 40-Foot Plummet Down Air Shaft

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Emergency personnel have rescued a man who firefighters say fell 40 feet down an air conditioning shaft at a Charlotte hotel.

WSOC in Charlotte reports (http://bit.ly/1HxQcDU) that police said the unidentified 24-year-old man climbed over a railing and onto a vent on the third floor at the uptown Hilton about 3 a.m. Thursday when the plastic grate gave away. Fire officials say the man fell about four floors. The man was initially confused about which hotel he was staying in. Dispatchers told him to yell for help, and emergency crews used GPS technology to locate him.

Officials haven't released the man's name or his motive for climbing onto the vent. Police say he won't face any charges.
