John Dickerson Will Replace Bob Schieffer As 'Face The Nation' Host

John Dickerson will take over as host of "Face The Nation," the show announced on Sunday.

Bob Schieffer, who has hosted the show since 1991, announced his retirement earlier this week. Schieffer has worked for CBS for over four decades.

Dickerson, who is the political director for CBS News and has guest hosted 'Face The Nation', will take over starting June 7th. He joined CBS in 2009 as a contributor. He is also Slate's chief political correspondent.

Dickerson had reportedly been on the network's short list along with CBS chief White House correspondent Major Garrett and "CBS This Morning" co-anchor Norah O'Donnell, who has also served as substitute host on "Face the Nation." CNN's Jake Tapper and ABC's Jonathan Karl had also reportedly been considered.

In 2004, Mike Allen described Dickerson as "the master of the game" at questioning President George W. Bush. Dickerson, Allen wrote, "has knocked Bush off script so many times that his colleagues have coined a term for cleverly worded, seemingly harmless, but incisive questions: 'Dickersonian.'"
